June 24th, The Guide Gun has a straight stock where this one has the pistol grip design.

I've heard that MPI makes a synthetic stock for the 's, http: FWIW, I haven't heard anything negative about them. Marlin doesn't offer many options at all for their line. From what I've heard they will not do any customization at all.

I bought all the parts on my own and then took the rifle and parts to the smith. The XS ghost rings and scout mount came from Brownells and I ordered the Leupold from SWFA. The rifle and synthetic stock were both bought on Gunbroker. The gunsmith that did all the work is a local guy here in Birmingham.

He does great work but right now is not in the smithin' business. He's recently moved to a different gun store and doesn't have all of his equipment moved yet.

I talked to him last week and he said it could be a month or two before he gets his shop completely moved to the new location. June 25th, I don't know if y'all are familiar with the work that Yost-Bonitz and Wild West Guns do with the Marlin lever guns.

It's pretty neat - especially here in California where just thinking "assault rifle" can get you tossed in the pokey. WWG makes a nifty take-down rifle that they call the Alaskan Co-Pilot. Sorry, I can't post a pic of it. WWG's website is blocked on my work computer They are neat though. Originally Posted by 7. Wild West and Yost build some beautiful lever guns, but I'm with 7. I do really like the levers that Yost uses though. The factory Marlin lever loop is a little on the small side if you have on gloves or wear a class ring etc.

The wood was another story. The butt swaps easily but the forearm was a royal pain. We wound up ordering 4 different forearms from Brownell's before I found one that was suitable, and I still have to do some work on it to make it fit.

The donor rifle had the barrel band like the original rifle in this thread, non-barrel band forearms are NOT interchangeable, and vice versa, with barrel-band versions. If you are looking for a gunsmith someone will know, or if you are looking to swap parts they have a classified section near marlin 30-30 lever action tactical stock bottom of the main forum page, that is how I found my parts to swap.

I'll second Charlie's comment about the Marlin owners forum. Good group of guys with a lot of lever knowledge. June 26th, Haven't shot it yet but it feels and handles great. Does that sound like a good deal? I think I'll change the sights, have it parked, install a lever scout mount and then an optic. I'm actually thinking about putting an aimpoint on forex proprietary trading training london. I'd like to maybe use the rifle for deer.

Can't wait to get this thing out to the range. Oh, and what kind of sling are you guys putting on these? Last edited by drx; June 26th, at I'm not sure about the parkerizing cost. He's not done moving his shop yet, but I can forward you his name and number if you'd like to compare prices.

I think you'll really like the scout mount. Keep in mind the rear sight has to be removed in order to mount it though. Most of the guns I've seen with the scout mount use a quick release ring design in combination with a ghost ring.

I've been really pleased with the XS and since they made the scout mount the finishes match. As far as slings go, leather just how to trading options zecco right.

Nothing to fancy but I like a little character. I picked up a black leather NM by Turner for my black Marlin. It's a little long so I put it on a FN bolt gun. The NM sling looked great, but needed to be shorter than the standard 50" I think that's what it was. June 28th, Bummer, my new guide gun refuses to feed anything.

The extractor bites into the rim of the case and stops it cold. I took it back to the shop that I bought it from and their gunsmith is looking at it.

Is this a common problem? He worked the extractor a bit and didn't get anywhere so he said he would keep it over night and look at it in the morning. He might swap another extractor in from another gun. Granted, that doesn't mean it's not unheard of. On my shorty the smith tuned the extractor and ejector to really flip the cases clear. They actually will flip out fast enough that the open end will spin around and make contact with the side of the receiver behind the ejection port.

Have you checked out the Marlin Owners Forum? If you don't want to register, I can post your problem and see if anyone has a suggestion.

June 29th, Thanks for the offer, but the smith just called and said he replaced the extractor and all is working well. He said it looks like the extractor was just manufactured incorrectly with the edge missing so the corner it was creating was catching the rim of the case. I know you'll enjoy shooting it. The big bores are a blast! July 1st, Hey, that's the Leupold 2.

What rings are you using for that. Leupold's sight says the tube diameter is 1. That can't be right. What is the actual diameter? Thanks for all your help so far. Moderator Tools Show Printable Version. Display Modes Linear Mode Switch to Hybrid Mode Switch to Threaded Mode.
