We look forward to this special event every year, as it brings our members together to celebrate the achievements of our long-standing membership. This year was especially unique, as it was the first time that PKAR had a Live Auction during the event.

Throughout the evening PKAR celebrated the 25, 50, and 60 year members, Past Presidents, Honourary Fellows, New Members, as well as handed out the Merit Award. You could feel the positive energy in the room, and the strength of our membership as the stage continues to fill with members both new and experienced. Congratulations again of this magnificent achievement, Trudy!

To be able to celebrate these individuals speaks volumes about PKAR and our membership. We would like to send a massive THANK YOU to all of those who donated prizes, and to the volunteers who donated a large amount of time and effort to make this event possible!

Without your help, we would not be able to continue to host this wonderful event. It goes to show the impact volunteerism can have our membership, and our community! Over PKAR Members and Special Guests were in attendance at the Evinrude Centre to take part in a wonderful meal, social exchange, and were able to share in a morning based around the idea of giving back.

Throughout PKAR has held various events, such as PKAR Golf Tournament, Silent Auction, Bike Big, etc, to help raise money for local charities. The money raised was presented to five local charities during the Christmas Breakfast.

Each charities took an opportunity to thank PKAR for their work, and also shared how important these funds would be to their organizations, and how they positively affected the lives of those in our community.

Afterwards PKAR President Mike Heffernan, PKAR Executive Officer Kathy Belanger, and Community Involvement Co-Chairs Cathy Burningham and Aaron Wright greeted each charity and happily presented them with their cheques. You could really feel the positive energy in the room during the cheque presentations. The moment truly sparked inspiration within the PKAR membership.

Following the cheque presentations PKAR President Mike Heffernan randomly drew names from the membership to receive prizes for their attendance, and participation. The feeling of community was cemented throughout the room. They say December is the time of year for giving. This morning PKAR was invited to attend a round table discussion regarding the Darlington Refurbishment Project Overview put on by Karl Baldauf and the Peterborough Chamber forex e500 Commerce. There was also information provided by lo cal businesses and government.

Dean Wilcox, General Manager, Rolls Royce supplied information about the importance of locals in their employment force, as they work along side OPG in their Darlington project. How this project will affect on our local economy was further driven home by Jim Genge, QA Manager at Canadian Instrumentation Services Group, as he explained their involvement with the project.

Lorne Kelsey, Peterborough Economical Development, also spoke about the projects potential for economic growth within the city! The evening culminated with the presentation of the annual awards in addition to the presentation of New Member Certificates, and the recognition of membership milestones for 25, 50 and 60 years. The flight flew from Peterborough to Gatineau with a small selection of businessmen, reporters, and politicians on board. Two of these politicians included Peterborough-Kawartha MP Maryam Monsef, and Northumberland-Peterborough South MP Kim Rudd.
